The Institute for Parliamentary Research is an institution of the Foundation for Science and Democracy (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Demokratie, SWuD). It was founded on the 1st April 2016 in Halle (Saale) and has been based in Berlin-Mitte since the 1st November 2018.
IParl is active in four key areas:
- Conducting research on parliamentarism, broadly understood as the organization of democratic representation, its relevant forms and functions, its institutions and actors, and its rules and processes;
- Serving as a froum for parliamentary democracy, outwardly directed at imparting knowledge to society, while internally focusing on research;
- Initiating project about parliamentary best practices;
- Advising parliaments and parties.
