The project builds on the surveys and findings of the IParl project on the candidate selection for the 2017 Bundestag elections. The aim of the project at the time was to research the nomination of Bundestag candidates as precisely and comprehensively as possible.<\/p>

The follow-up project examines the temporal organisation of the nomination process in more detail in order to highlight intra-party and geographical similarities and differences. While analyses of temporal organisation have already been carried out for various government systems and parliaments, there are no studies taking the pre-parliamentary and intra-party space into account. This is all the more astonishing as it is in the parties that recruit personnel for parliamentary mandates and possibly government offices. The project aims to fill this research gap and clarify the following questions:<\/p>

  1. How is the time-schedule of the process of nominating candidates in the constituency and at state level organised?<\/li>
  2. Where are there differences in the temporal organisation of the constellation process and how are these distributed between the parties and regions?<\/li>
  3. What are the consequences of changes to those schedules?<\/li>
  4. What impact did the election of the new Bundestag have on the nomination process?<\/li><\/ol>

    To answer these and other questions, semi-structured guided interviews will be conducted in the constituency and at district and state level with party members who are particularly involved in the candidate nomination process. In addition, a standardised online survey is planned in Berlin and Brandenburg.<\/p>
